At the just concluded Metro championships 23 Marlins swimmers achieved top ten positions, 11 won medals and 6 became Metro champions winning 12 championships between them. Sylwia Pasieczny led the medal count with 5 gold and 1 silver. Four of the gold medals and the silver medal were open events.
A depleted team competed very well. We have variuos swimmers missing due to sickness, injury, State surf competitions, school commitments and school competitions. Despite this, team still managed to finish 4th overall.
There were a number of outstanding swims:
Karlee Assef gaining her first Metro medal, Simone Piper qualifying for National Age and Ian Sarno’s 9 second personal best in the open 400m Individual medley.
Mel Tan’s (13 years) 3rd in the open 50m back and Michaela Le’s first top ten finishes were other highlights.
