Report on the MLC Marlins performances at the 2003 Sydney Metropolitan Championships

MLC Marlins had a team of 59 swimmers at the championships and finished in 4th place overall behind Macquarie Fields, Toongabbie and Carlile. There were some outstanding individual performances including 19 medallists: 6 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze:

Interesting Facts from the Meet

  • 9 of our 19 medals, including 4 of our 6 gold medals were won in Breaststroke
  • MLC Marlins won gold in the boys 10, 11, 13 and 14 years Breaststroke events (Paul Sindone, Kenneth To, Ian Sarno and Andrew Reis)
  • In the 11 years boys 100 Breaststroke MLC Marlins finished 1st, 5th and 7th (Kenneth To, Mark Sindone and Ben Lau)
  • In the 14 years boys 100 Breaststroke MLC Marlins finished 1st , 3rd and 4th (Andrew Reis, William Messervy and John Took)
  • In the 15 years girls 100 Butterfly MLC Marlins had 6 swimmers in the top 10 (Ebony Dawking, Laura Mooney, Hannah Luck, Tammy Schafer, Olivia Allan and Vanessa Bowden)
  • The Luck Family (Hannah, Oliver and Maggie) accumulated 1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals, 12 top 10 finishes and a total of 295 points for the club

  • Jarred Lammiman - 2 top 10 finishes with PBs of over 3 seconds
  • Hannah Luck - 7/7 top 10 finishes including 4 medals
  • Maggie Luck - 3 medals and a 4th place, including an 8sec PB for a bronze medal in 100 Freestyle
  • Laura Mooney - 5 top 10 finishes and qualified for National Age 200 Butterfly
  • Simone Piper - 3 top 10 finishes including a 6 second PB to win a bronze medal in 100 Butterfly
  • Stephanie Purcell - a 7 second PB for a top 10 in the 100 Breaststroke
  • Andrew Reis - 5/5 PBs, 1 gold medal, 4/5 top 10, including 4th in the Open 100 Breaststroke
  • Ian Sarno - 3/3 PBs, 1 gold medal and 11th in the Open 200 Breaststroke
  • Tammy Schafer - 6/8 PBs and 3 top10 finishes
  • The Sindone Brothers (Mark and Paul) - 1st, 4th and 5th place from their only 3 swims
  • Connie Sloane - 2/2 PBs
  • Kenneth To - 4/4 PBs, 2 gold, 1 silver and a 4th place
  • John Took - 5 top 10 finishes including 2 silver medals
