      MLC Marlins Long Course Carnival

      Thank you to all the officials, helpers, swimmers and parents that attended the MLC Open Carnival 4th October. The carnival ran to schedule and provided swimmers with an early summer competition.

      Thank you to John Aitkin and Cherry Smith who refereed the carnival and Pat Troy Swimming NSW. Thank you to the MLC officials and helpers:

      Margot Tiems and Lin Johnson for organising the carnival entries.

      Te Haumi Maxwell won two individual golds in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle and two relay golds. Te Haumi broke the 50m Free National record twice and the 100m free record on his way to winning 4 gold. >>Read more

      State Open Report

      The NSW State Open championships attracted some of the best swimmers in Australia. A number of overseas teams and squads competed including teams from New Zealand, Great Britain, Japan and Norway. The standard was very high with a World Record to Eamon Sullivan in the 50m Freestyle on Sunday night being the highlight.

      Marlins swimmers competed well. The competition had both 'A' and 'B' finals. With the meet containing stars such as Leisel Jones, Grant Hacket, Alice Mills, Jennifer Reilly, Stephanie Rice, Brenton Rickard and Jessica Schipper making a 'B' final was a considerable achievement. >>Read more

      MLC Marlins club wishes to advise that as a rule, only major meets are monitored for new records.

      Applications for club records at other meets will need to be made by the swimmer or parent and need to be accompanied by the official result (or link to same), and date of birth.

      National Open

      Caitlin Sinclair, Melanie Tan, Cameron Reynolds and Ha-Yeon Lee represented the MLC Marlins at the recent National Open Short Course Championships.
      Caitlin, entered the competition ranked 2nd and third in the 200m & 100m Back. Caitlin sprained her ankle two days before the meet but still managed to make two finals and earn herself a place on the Australian  youth Olympic team. Ha-Yeon swam personal best times in both her events (100m & 200m Butterfly). Cameron Reynolds swam personal best in his 3 back stroke events and Melanie Tan swam a personal best in the 50m Back to finish 9th, missing the final by 0.02. Well done to the team

      Bunnings Fund raising BBQ

      The MLC MArlins wished to thank Bunnings for running a BBQ at the Ashfield Store Saturday 27th September. The BBQ made a profit of over $1800. Roster of support was Kathy Mulhearn, Sheila Laxton, Trudi Cusack, Alex Cusack, Regina Marks, Edward Marks, Peter Totidis, Nick Wellfare, Peter Lee, Lenore Tuckerman, Mike Tuckerman, Sarah Tuckerman, Margot Tiems, Elizabeth Tiems, Lin Wellfare, Julia O'Hare, Anneliese O'Hare, Min Young Lee and Ha-Yeon Lee.
      I wish to thank the Sinclairs for orgainising the BBQ and being there all day. I believe Karen is happy not to see another sausage for a while! Well done.

       

      MLC Marlins win Gold. The MLC Marlins Swim team won the highest award issued by Australian Swimming for the second consecutive year. The MLC Marlins won the 2007 Gold club award with the following scores:

        STATE RESULTS

      This year's summer State results were excellent. The team's performances and attitude was excellent. The Juniors finished 3rd, the 13-18's finished 5th.The team finished 5th overall. The team broke 1 National record, 2 state records and 27 club records .

      Te Haumi Maxwell & Suay Toprak win 5 golds each at the recent State Championships. 

      Te Haumi Maxwell (13) broke a National Age record in winning the 50m Freestyle (24.67). Te Haumi also won another 4 titles (100m Free, 100m Butterfly, 100m Back, 200m Back) adding a bronze in the 200m freestyle. Te Haumi swam personal best times in every race including the heats and finals.
       
      Suay Toprak (13) had a wonderful meet, winning 5 titles (200m Butterfly, 200m & 800m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley, 200m Individual Medley), Suay had a number of top ten positions 2nd 5km Open Water, 2nd 400m Freestyle, 5th 100m Breaststroke & 50m Freestyle, 2nd 100m Butterfly, 3rd 100m Freestyle, 4th 200m Backstroke. These amazing result earned Suay a place on the Swimming NSW Team to compete in New Zealand in March.
